The point they make in the article is so true. It's sort of like when someone "likes" Unicef on facebook and brags that they are helping out the poor, when really it doesn't do anything.

yeah. i see this all the time on facebook as well. people "like" something or "join a group" and that's where it ends. if the organization is lucky the community might donate but that's as far as it goes. on the plus side, it is a good way to spread awareness seeing as how facebook and myspace have revolutionized communication and the culture of this generation. that being said though, it's taking away from organizations that benefit from actual, real help.

Facebook for example is a good way to raise awareness on the cause but people need to take the next step after liking something and actually get involved.

grrr... I thought the link would be clickable. Anyways here is the article:

Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys are among a slew of celebs who are powering down and going offline for a new charity campaign called Digital Life Sacrifice.

Justin Timberlake, Kim Kardashian, Usher, Jennifer Hudson and Elijah Wood will join Gaga and Keys in signing off of their social media platforms on Facebook and Twitter, the Associated Press reports. The celebs will log off on Wednesday, Dec. 1, which is World's AIDS Day.

The stars will begin tweeting and facebooking again once the charity raises $1 million for Keys' charity Keep a Child Alive. "It's so important to shock you to the point of waking up," Keys told the AP of the cause. "It's not that people don't care or it's not that people don't want to do something, it's that they never thought of it quite like that."

Keys has 2.6 million Twitter followers, while Gaga has more than 7.2 little monsters following her. For more information on how you can take part in this cause, go to KeepAChildAlive.org.

I feel a lot of people on facebook when they join r accept a request from a group don't really even look in to it. cause look at peoples profiles some people are in 100 plus groups... how can you be making a change in that many groups.
