I believe it’s easy to see the similarities between the two, but what I don’t understand is why people in both instances choose to stay? And I know most couldn’t just pick up and leave due to their financial situations, I’m referring to those who had the means to leave but choose not to.
@Unknown, I think the reason people chose to stay (in regards to the DB) was because they had had so much hope for the land. Most of the people who took advantage of the cheap land prices took it becuase they were leaving what they had (which was usually nothing) for something better. For them to leave again would be like leading them to nothing once again. In my perspective... the people's land was their security and the one thing that was solid for them... to leave everthing behind would rob them of that comfort and stability despite how unstable farming in the area was.
@Unknown, I think Kayla and Elizabeth are right. People had so much hope in the land that things would get better, they had to at some point. Besides a lot of them came to have a better life, and even though it was hard to survive, it was hard all over so if they left they would be going back to a life of nothing. Their land and farming was their life, they didn't like the cities, so to leave and try to survive somewhere else was having them leave their home and step out of their comfort zone. Although some stepped out of their comfort zone moving to the Great Plains.
