Work on Essay 2: Generating Ideas.
1. Divide into six groups for quick review of the chapters. Find section to read to the class and ask a "discussion" question to follow it.
2. Essay 2 options--Where are you in this process? How many are interested in the Narrative option? What about the other "literary analysis" options?

Agrarianism
Grandpa, The Land, The circle of men, Technology--where's the section that talks about owning too much land so that you become apart from it? Can we find that page? Is it chapter 5?
Christian Subtext: (Christian Values, Christian Virtues)
In Christianity, the theological virtues are faith, hope and love, a list which comes from 1 Corinthians 13:13. There are many listings of virtue additional to the traditional Christian virtues (faith, hope and love) in the Christian Bible. One is the "Fruit of the Holy Spirit," found in Galatians 5:22-23: "By contrast, the fruits of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

chapter 13 was intense. i got shock when i find out that grandpa died. I liked his character, to me he was sincere and funny. And, I agree what Casy said "An' Grampa didn' die tonight. He died the minute you took 'im off the place" (Steinbeck 146). I think grandpa didn't handle the idea to leave home.
@Eva... yes I agree. Imagine how hard it would be to have to leave home... and I think Casy was right when he said that. It made me think... how many other people died for similar reasons or from the loss of the comfort of their homes and land? I doubt that is why they actually died but I suppose it does feel like a part of you has died when you have to leave everything behind.
Yes I also agree. I also like the characters. But it is also hard to keep up with the slang. I dont know if I could survive out there with my kids....But I would do what I gotta do.
It was pretty intense....death keeps coming. So many people lose apart of them when they leave the land that they loved so much, and grew up on.
It is a shame to have Grandpa die. It shows how strong his love was for the land they had to leave. I wonder how this will effect the grandma. I remember reading that there arguing kept them strong. Grandma may be next.
THE BOOK HAS ALOT OF CHARACTERS AND I AM ENJOYING THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT GIVES US AN IDEA OF EACH CHARACTERS PERSONALITY.ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE UNIQUE IN THEIR OWN WAY.LOL
I liked this exercise that we did, It was fun and a refresher on some of the key points in each of the chapters.
